Actor Ameesha Patel recently reconsidered how she joined ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’, where she shared her equation with Aamir Khan – and the changing fate during Lagaan played a major role in shaping that opportunity.In a candid conversation, Ameesha revealed that Aamir first noticed her through an interview where her communication skills left an impression on him. “Aamir watched an interview of mine and found me intelligent and in one interview, we did it together and they were taking time to set up the camera. So, Aamir and I started playing with knots and crosses. We got along very well,” she said during a chat with Bollywood Bubble.

She also said that her association with Aamir goes back to her close casting in Lagaan.
“I took a screen test for the film Lagaan, got selected, and was given specific dates,” she recalled. However, things took an unexpected turn while she was filming Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in New Zealand, when she received a call telling her to change plans.Director Ashutosh Gowariker reportedly felt that she did not quite fit the rustic brief of the character. “He felt that my eyes looked very cultured, and I’m also very light-skinned,” she said.Interestingly, what worked against it in Lagan soon became an advantage elsewhere.
Amisha noted that her polished personality helped her bag Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, where she portrayed Sakina, a character distinguished by her awareness and sophistication.Reflecting on that point, she noted how close she came to being part of two major releases that ultimately collided at the box office. “Imagine Lagaan and Gadar released together… I would have participated in both,” she said.Before Ameesha was finalized for Mangal Pandey: The Rising, the role of Jwala was initially offered to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Her exit from the project caused quite a stir at the time.Speaking about the situation in a previous interview, Aishwarya explained that the problem stems from a dispute between the producer and her team.
