The West Bengal government on Tuesday transferred 28 Indian Police Service (IPS) and five West Bengal Police Service (WBPS) officers.

This is the second major reshuffle in the state by the new BJP government after coming to power in May this year. On June 8, the new government transferred at least 170 officers from the Prison Service and WBPS.
“33 officers, including 28 IPS officers and five WBPS officers, have been transferred,” a senior police officer said, adding that it was a routine transfer.
The list includes NR Babu, former Director General of Correctional Homes, who has been appointed as Director General of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with additional charge of Correctional Homes. Supratim Sarkar, Additional Director General (ADG) CID has been transferred to Communications as ADG.
K Jayaraman, a 1997 batch IPS officer who is working as Assistant Director General and Inspector General (IG) North Bengal, has been brought into the Directorate of Economic Offices as its Director.

Soon after taking office as Prime Minister, Suvendu Adhikari announced that the government had set up two committees, headed by two retired judges of the Calcutta High Court, to investigate allegations of institutional corruption and crimes against women during the 15-year Trinamool Congress regime.
Jayaraman has been appointed member secretary of the committee that will probe the alleged institutional corruption of the previous government.
The list also includes Tripurari Atharv, Bidhannagar City Commissioner of Police, who is classified as Assistant Director General of Traffic and Road Safety.
Several Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General (DIGs), Joint Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police, Superintendents of Police (SP) and Additional Commissioners of Police have also been transferred.
