The UK’s Royal Television Society (RTS) has appointed Sophie Jones as its new chief executive.
Britain’s leading TV and media forum confirmed the news on Monday. Jones is currently Chief Strategy Officer at the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), having joined the music trade association – home of the BRIT Awards and also the Mercury Prize – in 2020 as Director of Public Affairs.
Before joining BPI, Jones was Head of Corporate Relations at Channel 4. She will take over from RTS’s outgoing CEO, Theresa Wise, later this year, working closely with its Board of Trustees, as well as overseeing the Society’s educational activities, awards, conventions, national and regional centers, and member community.
Jones said being asked to lead the organization into its next phase is a “huge privilege.” She added: “Theresa leaves an impressive legacy and I look forward to building on it with the support of the fantastic RTS team, board and network of volunteers across the UK, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Jane Turton, Chair of the RTS Board of Trustees, called Jones’ production and broadcast experience “a valuable asset to RTS as we continue to grow the community, adapting to the demands of a very rapidly changing media world.”
“Sophie is passionate about the educational aspects of the association and the opportunities we have to support the sector in bringing in and developing career opportunities for the broadest talent base,” Turton said. “The Trustees and I very much look forward to working with her as we continue to champion excellence and support new talent, ensuring the Association remains a vibrant and inclusive home for the entire industry.”
