CBFC clears Riteish Deshmukh's 'Raja Shivaji' with minor changes; It was certified U/A 16+, and the child violence scene was replaced

After successfully passing the censorship process, Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’ has been rated U/A 16+. The three-hour film has undergone minor edits, such as removing a scene depicting child violence. Additionally, the creators took time to clarify the historical contexts and optimize the film’s title to ensure a smooth release on May 1.

Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’ has completed the censorship process before it hits theaters on May 1. The duration of the Marathi version is 195.05 minutes, which means the duration of the film is 3 hours, 15 minutes and 5 seconds.

The Central Board of Film Certification cleared the film with a U/A 16+ certificate after asking the makers to make some changes, including replacing the depiction of child violence.

As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the censorship process for ‘Raja Shivaji’ was completed on April 24. The CBFC screening committee asked the filmmakers to amend the disclaimer with clearer and stronger wording, along with a voiceover, the outlet reported.

The makers also had to add clarification to the choice of title ‘Raja Shivaji’. They were asked to provide documents for all historical references used in the film. The CBFC also sought a suitable script to match the film’s dialogues and songs.

The council also instructed the team to add specific dates for all major events that appear in the film. I also asked them to include textual lists of historical events.The report also added that the film faced only two minor cuts.

Images of a young child being slaughtered had to be replaced with a suitable shot. The makers were also asked to add sound to the silent visuals.With a running time of 195 minutes, ‘Raja Shivaji’ joins the growing list of Hindi feature films that have crossed the three-hour mark. The list includes “Animal,” which ran for 203 minutes, “Pushpa 2 – The Rule,” for 200 minutes, “Dhurandhar,” for 214 minutes, “Dhurandhar The Revenge,” for 229 minutes, and “Border 2,” for 199 minutes.‘Raja Shivaji’ stars Riteish Deshmukh as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The cast also includes Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Bhagyashree, Sachin Khedekar, Amoli Gupte, and Jitendra Joshi. Riteish and Genelia’s Mumbai Film is producing the film in association with Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios.
