Speaking about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) outlook for next year’s electoral battle, party president Nitin Nabin reportedly said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will remain the face of the party in the run-up to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Speaking to News 18 on the sidelines of voting in West Bengal on Thursday, Nabin said: “Look, he (Yogi Adityanath) is our chief minister, and the government is being run under him. So, it is natural that the faces remain the same,” the BJP president said.

He further added that the party is confident of returning to power for a third term under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath.

Nabin shows confidence in Yogi

Nabin also highlighted what he described as a major transformation in Uttar Pradesh’s governance and image over the years.

“The state which was once known for extortion and crime is today known for improved law and order and highways,” Nabin said.

Elaborating on this point, he said: “Look at Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister and Prime Minister are moving ahead with the process of turning Uttar Pradesh into ‘Uttam Pradesh’. Uttar Pradesh which was earlier known for crime and extortion, where people were misled by caste, is today known for development, highways and law and order,” he told Indian news outlets.

“So, it is certain that the basic needs of the public – good governance, development, infrastructure – are being met and Uttar Pradesh is functioning as one of the leading states in the country in these areas. The common people vote based on what they see,” Nabin added.

Law and order remains the main goal of the BJP

Reiterating the party’s central rule rhetoric, Nabin claimed that law and order remains a hallmark of the Adityanath government.

“One of the main unifying programs of support for Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath is law and order, and that is also clear. I think many cities of Uttar Pradesh are emerging today as developed cities. It is clear that all these factors are enough for us to form our third government and achieve the hat-trick,” the BJP president told News18.

He also reiterated the clarity of leadership within the party, saying: “Look, we have our prime minister, and the government is being run under his leadership. It is natural for the face to remain the same.”

Uttarakhand performance

Asked about the party’s position in Uttarakhand, Nabin said: “Every state government has many things to manage according to its own circumstances and challenges. But we look at our track record. We look at development.”

“And I think that today, Uttarakhand, in terms of the development framework, given our unique governance agenda, we are progressing well in that direction.”
