Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond on Thursday inspected metric examination centres, including Government Secondary School Unit No. 1 in Bhubaneswar, to ensure smooth conduct of Secondary Education Board examinations.

He highlighted the strict measures in place, as surveillance cameras monitor all classrooms and electronic devices prohibited inside them.
The minister’s visit aims to evaluate preparations and address any concerns. With 440 students taking exams at the centre, the focus is on maintaining a fair and safe environment.
Speaking to reporters, Gond said: “I visited the Unit 1 examination center of the government secondary school… There are 440 students taking the exams. There are surveillance cameras in all the classrooms… Mobile and electronic devices are not allowed to enter.”
The Odisha State Matriculation (Class 10) examinations 2026 officially began on February 19, 2026. The examinations, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, are scheduled to end on March 2, 2026.
Speaking about the preparations, Government Schools and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said on Tuesday: “All preparations have been made to conduct the exams safely. The question papers also contain QR codes and watermarks.”
He added: “This time too, the exams will be conducted very smoothly. Surveillance cameras have also been installed. I want students to get good results.”
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued important clarifications regarding the first board examination for Class 10. The council announced on Monday that attendance for the first exam is mandatory for all students.
In a letter issued on Saturday, CBSE said that students who missed three or more subjects in the first exam will not be eligible to appear in the second exam. The clarification comes after the board received multiple applications from students seeking permission to sit for the second examination for various reasons.
“All students must appear for the first board examination and all successful and eligible students will be allowed to improve their performance in any three subjects of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and Languages,” the letter said.
She added: “If a student does not appear in 3 or more subjects in the first exam, he will not be allowed to appear in the second exam. These students will be placed in the ‘repeat main’ category and can take the exam next year only in the main exams in February next year.” (ANI)
