Julia Varvaro speaks out about the ‘Sugar Daddy’ controversy and says she did nothing wrong.
Julia Varvaro, 29, the Department of Homeland Security’s deputy assistant secretary for counterterrorism, has broken her silence on the viral “Sugar Daddy” scandal centered around her.
Robert B., a man decades older than Varvaro, complained that he had spent $40,000 on her to maintain her upscale lifestyle. The complaint went straight to the Department of Homeland Security where Robert B. wrote that he did not want to become a sugar daddy. The Daily Mail reported that Varvaro was looking for older men on the dating app to fund her luxurious lifestyle. She had a profile on Seeking.com under the name Alessia where she described herself as someone who worked for a government agency and offered a “tempting sophistication,” the report said.Robert B. said Varvaro ended the relationship when Robert refused to spend more on her. Robert said their first date was at a Minetta Tavern location in D.C. where he spent $1,400 and got a kiss in return. They spent the weekend together at Martin Luther King Jr.’s in Aruba. In February, the couple went to Italy and Switzerland and spent a lot. After he returned, Varvaro pressured him to send $2,000 to cover half of her rent due to the Department of Homeland Security shutdown.
“She also told me directly that the $40,000 worth of jewelry on her wrists and ears are all mementos from her sugar daddy,” his complaint continued. “I believe she is under financial pressure and her actions pose a security risk.”Varvaro responded to the scandal and said she did nothing wrong. “We were together in an exclusive relationship. We went on vacation. I don’t know what’s wrong with that,” Varvaro told the Daily Mail. “I didn’t do anything wrong. This is just a crazy ex-boyfriend collecting crap. This is really weird.”“If we wrote a story about every failed short relationship in D.C., this city would collapse,” Varvaro said. “I thought it was a great relationship until we didn’t make it, and that was it.”
