Comedian and actor Kathryn O’Hara, who died Jan. 30, suffered from rectal cancer, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office disclosed Monday in her death certificate. The coroner’s office said he suffered a pulmonary embolism, caused by underlying rectal cancer, which led to death.

Along with the details of his cause of death, it has now been revealed that O’Hara personally suffered from rectal cancer. Many fans were surprised when the ‘Home Alone’ star was diagnosed.

The legendary actor’s only illness-related public comment was made in 2021 when he confirmed that he suffers from cardiac inversus: a rare congenital condition in which the heart is located on the right side of the chest instead of the left.

Thus, it is not known exactly when Catherine O’Hara was diagnosed with rectal cancer or what stage it was at the time of her death.

What is pulmonary embolism?The LA County Coroner revealed that Catherine O’Hara’s primary cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, a pulmonary embolism is a condition when a blood clot travels through the bloodstream to another part of the body and suddenly blocks an artery in the lungs, cutting off blood flow.

The death certificate shows that Catherine O’Hara’s body was handed over to her husband Bo Welch and cremated.
