In a sweeping remark, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the country, along with Venezuela, now constitutes 68 percent of the world’s oil reserves. The President spoke at the 74th National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.

“And yet they have more oil than any other country in the world, I think except us,” the president claimed, adding that the two countries together constitute 68 percent of the world’s total oil.
“I know it doesn’t mean much to the people of Great Village…we’re doing well,” he added.

One of his first statements after the military operation in Venezuela was on its oil reserves, identifying it as a major cause of violent geopolitical activity.
“We’re going to get our very big oil companies in the United States … going in, spending billions of dollars, fixing badly broken infrastructure,” AFP quoted President Trump as saying, adding, “We’re going to sell a lot of oil.”
More than 150 US military aircraft entered Venezuelan airspace after the force neutralized the country’s air defenses, Bloomberg reported.
To capture President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Army Delta Force commandos were dispatched to the military base where he lived. The forces reached Maduro and his wife before they could seek refuge.
At least seven explosions rocked Venezuela’s capital Caracas as the country witnessed violent military action. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the intervention as ‘part of a massive joint military and law enforcement operation’.
Trump announced that it would ‘run’ Venezuela until there is a change in power.
