Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie’s mother, has been missing since Sunday, and authorities say son-in-law Tommaso Cioni was the last to see her.
Nancy Guthrie’s missing son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, has sparked much interest. The mother of Today show host Savannah Guthriewas was reported missing Sunday and authorities believe she was abducted from her home. Sioni, who is married to Savannah’s sister Annie Guthrie, was reportedly last seen on Saturday night.
Tommaso Cioni is not a suspect or person of interest in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, authorities said in a statement. (X/@JLRINVESTIGATES)Nancy Guthrie had dinner with Annie, who reportedly lives near her home in Tucson, Arizona. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told the New York Times that Cioni dropped Guthrie off at the house after dinner. Authorities believe Guthrie was taken sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. While there has been a lot of social media interest in Sioni since he was last seen, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office clarified that they have not announced any suspects or persons of interest at this time.

Authorities also explained that it was standard practice to speak with people who may have had contact with Guthrie prior to his abduction, and so spoke with Cione. As investigators continue to search for Nancy Guthrie, several claims have been made about Sioni’s band and an alleged power of attorney. To be sure, these claims come from unverified profiles. Tommaso Cioni: Power of attorney claimA post by X claims Sioni has a ‘special durable power of attorney’.
“Tommaso Cioni, Principal, sign my name to this #PowerofAttorney this day of May 16, 2025, and after first being duly sworn, declare to the undersigned that I sign and execute this instrument as my Power of Attorney and that I voluntarily sign, or voluntarily sign and another person voluntarily signs. Power of Attorney act for the stated purposes and that I am eighteen years of age or older, of sound mind and not under any obstruction or undue influence,” the charging document reads.
However, there is no link between this alleged document and Nancy Guthrie. It only resurfaced after his kidnapping, and many online were quick to point out that such documentation was common in real estate transactions.
“No big deal. It was only used to close the mortgage between him and Annie. They’re used all the time when one party can’t attend the closing,” one person commented.
Tommaso Cioni: band and bandmate in focusWhile the alleged power of attorney document is believed to be commonplace online, it also makes claims about Sioni’s band and bandmate Dominic Evans.
Sioni is in a band called Early Black, who are into shoegaze music. However, it’s the band’s bio that has garnered attention amid Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
“The songs were more of the band’s repertoire on its debut, Life:Love :: Love: Murder. Also, as with the rest of its trajectory, the band began playing shows locally in Tucson and occasionally in Phoenix and Flagstaff with mostly local but some national acts (The Prids, Liars, A Place of the Biored). The mention of ‘murder’ raised eyebrows online.
“Last person to see Nancy Guthrie. Tommaso Cioni. Plays in a band called Early Black. The band posted a message on their FB page Life:love :: love:marder,” wrote one person on X.
Bandmate Dominic Evans, who is apparently a friend of Sioni’s, also drew attention. “I think everyone in that inner circle should be seen and fully vetted. This guy, including Dominic Evans. He’s Tommaso Cioni’s friend and bandmate. He’s been arrested for burglary, robbery, embezzlement, DUI. Where’s Nancy Guthrie?,” one person claimed in X. Arizona Liminar Jude’s lawsuit was recorded in Liminix. Tucson Municipal Court.
“Tommaso Cioni’s bandmate Dominic Evans was once charged with theft in Pima County,” the profile added.
Describing how Cioni and Evans came together to form the band, their bio reads: “Early Black was born in April 2007, when Dominic Evans (drums) and Tommaso Cioni (bass, vocals) met Walter I. Gonsalves, Jr. (guitar, vocals) through an online newspaper ad (guitar, vocals). Cioni posted on a Tucson Craigslist. Respond to weekly postings).
