Three Indian nationals were arrested by Canadian police on an anti-extortion patrol and charged after shots were fired at a house.
Harjot Singh (21), Taranveer Singh (19) and Dayajeet Singh Billing (21) face one count each of discharging a firearm and were all remanded in custody until Thursday (February 5, 2026), Surrey Police Service (SPS) said in a statement on Monday (February 2).

On February 1, 2026, SPS members were patrolling the Crescent Beach neighborhood of Surrey when they received reports of shots fired and a small fire outside a residence near Crescent Road and 132 Street. After some time, the three accused were arrested by the SPS officials, the statement said.
The SPS’s Major Crimes Wing has taken over the investigation and the three have now been charged with Criminal Code offences, it said.
Each of the three was charged with one charge of discharging a firearm in a place contrary to section 244.2(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming. The three have been remanded in custody till February 5, 2026.
SPS has confirmed that they are all foreign nationals and has involved the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), it said.
One of the suspects suffered injuries, including two black eyes, media reports said.
Surrey Police Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said on Monday (February 2) that the suspect refused to follow instructions to get out of the ride-share vehicle and began to ‘actively resist’.
“As we trained, they were taken to the ground and handcuffed securely,” said Mr. Houghton said.
A second suspect with a black eye was also injured in custody after refusing to comply, Mr Houghton said.
The arrested officers were part of Project Assurance, an initiative to patrol neighborhoods targeted by extortion violence.

It was not clear whether the men were in the country on tourist visas, study permits or work permits, but Mr Houghton said the CBSA had launched its own investigation into the men’s status.
Surrey has seen several shootings at homes and businesses in the past several months, but has escalated since the New Year.
