Stephen Lyons, 45, one of Scotland’s most notorious gang figures, is set to be extradited to Spain after his arrest at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Saturday.
Indonesian authorities said Lyons, who arrived on a flight from Singapore, is wanted in Spain on charges of organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering and a murder case from 2024.Lyons, who is said to be the head of a transnational criminal organization operating across Europe and the Middle East, was detained after immigration officers intercepted him. He allegedly used front companies to launder money in Spain, Scotland, England, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain and Turkey.Lyons’ wife, Amanda Lyons, has also been arrested in Dubai for alleged crimes in Spain, suggesting authorities are targeting the criminal gang’s inner circle.Bali Police Chief Daniel Adityajaya said Lyons was the leader of a “large-scale transnational criminal organization involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.” The arrest comes after coordinated raids across Scotland and Spain, carried out with support from Europol, resulting in multiple arrests and asset seizures.
Lyons survived a 2006 shooting incident in Glasgow that killed his cousin, and then moved to Spain before settling in Dubai. He has ties to the Dubai-based Kinahan crime group and has been involved in a decades-long feud with rival Scottish gangs.Authorities in Bali continue to search for two of Leon’s companions who arrived with him but are still at large on the island.
