'I know my H-1B rules': Indian techie's viral fight with Texas whistleblower over working at food truck

An Indian tech’s fight with a Texas journalist went viral as Sarah Gonzalez accused him of abusing his H-1B by “working” in what he called his wife’s food truck.

Texas journalist Sarah Gonzalez, who gained notoriety after allegedly busting H-1B scams in the state, went to confront an Indian technician about whom she said she had received a tip that despite being on the H-1B, the man was running a food truck business.

Gonzalez said it was a typical H-1B-H4 scam where the H-1B comes to the United States, brings a dependent and then runs a business in the dependent’s name. Gonzalez said Naveen Tummala’s H-1B was sponsored by Flexera Global Inc., but he called himself the owner of the “Golcona Xpress” food truck, which has several outlets in the DFW area. Gonzalez said she received tips that this man could be found working all day inside the food truck, on Instagram videos, calling himself the “Master Chef” and posting his own cooking videos. A video of the confrontation went viral in which Naveen said he was neither the owner nor the chef of the food truck, and was in the truck setting up the printer after finishing his office work at 4 o’clock. The conversation turned into a fight when Gonzalez asked the man why his wife, who he claimed was the owner, was home and was working the food truck. The guy said he didn’t work there and came to fix something.

“I just saw you taking someone’s order,” Gonzalez said when asked about his social media posts.

Navin said he knows the recipes but doesn’t know the food truck chef, and he only helps his wife with her work. Navin responded, “I’m off duty. I can’t help my wife, or what? Do you think I’m getting paid for that? I know my rules. I know my rights.” “Do you think business owners are always present in the companies they own?” Navin added when pressed to explain his wife’s absence. The Indian then asked Gonzalez to apologize to him for breaking into his property and threatening him.

“You can do whatever you want. You think it’s an American thing. You guys do the same thing to everyone. Go ahead and check out your backyard,” Naveen said. Gonzalez said she did not understand his English. “You didn’t even let him talk. You were yelling at him!?!? How to report honestly!?!? What scam are you talking about?!? H4 can do business. Husband helps his wife!?!? Which one is a scam!?!? Why don’t you look at the Hispanic community in Texas!?!? Aren’t they already above 30%. Have you done any reporting on them?!?! Harassment of legal people or visa process that you know nothing about while not reporting what is happening in Our society is honest!?!?” said one social media user.
