Police launch investigation after fatal robbery attack in east Belfast, UK
A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a man who was attacked by burglars at a block of flats in east Belfast. Nicholas, also known as Nicky Gordon, died after sustaining serious injuries as a result of being assaulted by intruders inside the apartment building during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Gordon was taken to the hospital, where he died. The incident was reported to the police service at 08:25 GMT on Tuesday, although the actual event was around 04:45 am, as reported by the BBC. Speaking to the press, Chief Inspector Duffy stated that “a number of intruders” had entered the apartment building and “attacked another man before escaping”. Ambulance crews arrived at the scene a short time later.Two suspects were charged with aggravated robbery with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The suspects include a 24-year-old male and a 49-year-old female. After the police conducted an investigation into the matter, the police released them on bail. The PSNI said officers “will continue to work at a rapid pace to search for others who may be involved”.A number of local political officials indicated that the local community was disturbed after news of the violent crime. One of those officials, Democratic Unionist Party MLA David Brooks, said such cases were causing fear and anxiety for many residents in the local community. He added: “It’s not something you’d expect to happen in your local community, but the nature of this break-in is making people concerned about their homes and their security too.
“Peter McReynolds, another MLA from the Alliance Party, said the local community was shocked and saddened by the case, as such a crime was rare in this particular community.
