Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with his Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson on Sunday, focusing on trade, technology, defense and other key sectors.

Modi, who arrived earlier today on a two-day visit, was awarded the Royal Pole Star Commander Grand Cross in recognition of his exceptional contribution to Indo-Swedish relations and his visionary leadership.
During the delegation-level talks, the two sides reviewed the full scope of bilateral relations and explored new ways of cooperation to boost bilateral trade, which reached US$7.75 billion in 2025.
In their talks, the two sides focused on enhancing bilateral relations in the areas of green transformation, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, startups, resilient supply chains, defence, space, climate action, and people-to-people relations.
Ahead of the talks, Modi said he would meet Prime Minister Kristersson to strengthen Indo-Swedish friendship on trade, investments, innovation, defense and more.
Separately, Prime Minister Modi also met Robert Maersk Aujla, Chairman, Maersk and discussed the huge scope of opportunities in India and deepening investments, especially in sectors like port infrastructure, logistics and more.
Prime Minister Modi expressed appreciation for Maersk’s long-standing presence in India and encouraged them to invest in new business opportunities in the areas of maritime logistics and port infrastructure in the country, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.
“They also discussed cooperation in green shipping and skills mobility,” Jaiswal added.
Earlier, Swedish Air Force aircraft accompanied the Prime Minister’s plane as it entered the European country’s airspace.
He received a warm welcome at the airport from his Swedish counterpart in a special gesture. Modi had earlier visited Sweden in 2018 to attend the first-ever India-North India summit.
Shortly after arriving in Gothenburg, Modi met members of the Indian community. He was welcomed with musical performances, including a rendition of the ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ bhajan by Swedish opera singer Charlotta Holdt and a stunning Bharatanatyam performance by Lilla Akademien students.
During the reception, in the presence of Prime Minister Christerson, a wonderful example of Bengali culture was displayed. “Bengali culture is popular all over the world and Sweden is no exception,” Modi said on social media.
