Meet Alex Sunny, an American woman who went viral on TikTok because of her intention to move to Afghanistan for her husband, whom she met on Snapchat

A TikTok account named Alex Sunny claims to be a 26-year-old American woman who is going to Afghanistan to live with her husband.

Alex Sunny, a 26-year-old American truck driver, has suddenly become a TikTok sensation due to her long-distance love story, for which she now wants to move to Afghanistan permanently.

She claimed that since her Afghan husband cannot come to the US due to the US travel ban, she will be moving elsewhere this year in August. Her claims have not been verified and the account only recently began circulating, raising justifiable concerns about the veracity of her identity and story.Sunny claimed that she holds dual Jordanian-American citizenship through her Jordanian father and her American mother from Kentucky. She met her husband on Snapchat in July 2024 and their first meeting in person was in December 2024.

They were married but did not spend much time with each other.

After the announcement, a viral TikTok account began receiving questions as well. “I haven’t seen my husband for almost two years, so I’m going to where he is because he can’t come to my current place,” she said, adding that she plans to live with him and his family, learn about Afghan history and culture, try local foods, and respect local customs and traditions.

Sunny has addressed many of the concerns raised in the comments on her videos. She claimed that her husband’s aunt attends the gym and explained her understanding of the country’s social and travel norms. She also highlighted her half-Jordanian background as part of her perspective on mobility. Many social media users described her as a Taliban PR plant while many doubted that she is not even a real person. While Sunny’s story took the social media platform by storm, with the majority warning her against moving to Afghanistan, a TikTok user who claimed to have worked with Afghan advocacy groups said there could be four possible reasons for Sunny to move to Afghanistan. The woman said Sunny must be thinking that she will get special status in Afghanistan because she is American. The woman said that the husband may be a Taliban official, speculating that these videos were a public relations initiative on the part of the Taliban.

She added that Sunny probably thinks she is safe because she is spreading now. However, others dismissed Sunny’s videos as merely inflammatory and share-baiting.
