Indian-origin CEO Sanjay Mehrotra donates $250 million to Trump accounts, Perez calls Micron a 'truly great American company'

Indian-origin CEO Sanjay Mehrotra announced a $250 million donation to Trump’s accounts on behalf of his company Micron.

Micron Technology CEO of Indian origin, Sanjay Mehrotra, announced that on the occasion of Americans turning 250 on July 4 this year, his company will invest $250 million in Trump accounts, the largest donation made by any company to date.

“For our employees in the United States, we will allocate up to $1,000 per child. For the communities we call home across seven states, we will allocate $250 per child. And one day that becomes their first home, education, or company,” Mehrotra announced, calling it his pledge to the American Dream.He said: “The American dream begins with opportunity, and today we are putting it in the hands of one million American children.”“This comes alongside the more than $200 billion we are investing in the United States

“We’ve been building this country for 250 years. And the kids we invest in today will build the next 250 kids.”President Donald Trump praised the decision, calling Micron a truly great American company, and pledged the largest corporate investment of its kind.

“Micron is investing directly in the American worker and the American family! And that is exactly what Trump’s wonderfully successful accounts were created for – giving every American child a real start and opportunity to succeed,” Trump said on Truth Social.

What are Trump’s accounts?

Any child of a US citizen under the age of 18 with a valid Social Security number can have a Trump account. Children born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028, are eligible for a one-time federal initial contribution of $1,000.

The account belongs to the children and their parents, grandparents, charities and employers can contribute up to $5,000 per year. The fund remains invested until the child reaches 18 years of age.

Who is Sanjay Mehrotra? What does his company Micron do?

Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Boise, Idaho, Micron Technology is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of memory and storage products, including DRAM, NAND flash memory, and solid-state drives. Unlike companies like NVIDIA or Intel, which primarily design processors, Micron specializes in chips that store data.Sanjay Mehrotra has been CEO of Micron since 2019.Mehrotra is an Indian-born businessman who moved to the United States to study engineering. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, and subsequently completed the executive program at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. In 1988, Micron co-founded SanDisk and later became the company’s CEO before joining Micron.
