Indian man arrested in Texas after attacking woman and biting her child; student visa was revoked in 2025

An Indian man, Atharva Vyas, has been arrested for allegedly attacking a mother and daughter in a park in Texas.

A 24-year-old Indian man, Atharva Vyas, was arrested for assaulting a mother and her three-year-old daughter in a park in San Antonio, Texas. ICE issued a detention order against the man, meaning that after his proceedings with law enforcement are complete, he will be detained and returned to ICE custody.

The department said it canceled Vyas’s student visa in 2025 because of his prior criminal record and that he was living in the United States illegally.Gabriela Perez and her daughter faced Vyas’s unprovoked attack on April 18 around 3 p.m. The mother was walking in the park carrying her baby when Vyas grabbed Perez by the hair causing her to fall and drop the baby. According to the San Antonio Express-News, while on the ground, Vyas assaulted the child, causing serious bodily injury.

When the cops arrived, they found that Vyas was being restrained by a witness who intervened after seeing the attack.Perez spoke out about the attack and shared a photo of her wounded daughter in a GoFundMe post, asking for help in confronting the targeted attack. She said her daughter lost two of her teeth, and apart from the physical injuries, the child was suffering from severe emotional distress. “Since the attack, my daughter has needed constant care, comfort and reassurance.

“She is unable to be with anyone else, so I had to take some time off work to be there for her,” the mother wrote. The Department of Homeland Security tracked down Vyas and found that he had entered the country in August 2023 on a student visa. “Just three months after his admission, he was arrested on the University of Texas campus for assault. University of Texas Police contacted ICE. However, the Biden administration determined that this crime was not ‘egregious’ enough to warrant revocation of the visa and decided not to take any enforcement action against Vyas,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement, blaming the Biden administration for not taking action against a known violator earlier. The department said Vyas’s student visa was canceled in April 2025 by the Trump administration due to his previous detention. Acting Assistant Secretary of State Loren Pace said: “This criminal illegal alien brutally bit this child and caused her to lose her teeth. This barbaric attack against this woman and her three-year-old child in a park was preventable.” “The Biden administration should never have released this animal after he was arrested for assault.

We are working with our partners in Texas to ensure that this illegal criminal alien will never roam freely in American communities again.
