US President Donald Trump Last year he repeated his claim that a war between India and Pakistan could be nuclearized through tariffs.

“I settled eight wars. Of the eight wars, at least six were settled because of tariffs. In other words, I said, ‘If you don’t settle this war, I’m going to impose tariffs on you, because I don’t want to see people get killed,'” Mr. Trump said in an interview. Fox business Tuesday (February 10, 2026).

“And they said, ‘Well, what to do with this?’ I said, ‘You will be charged.’ Like India and Pakistan. In my opinion it would have been a nuclear war. They were really going at it, 10 planes were shot down. He was going at it,” Mr. Trump said.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan said, ‘President Trump saved at least 10 million lives when he stopped our fight’. Because they were going nuclear, [in] my opinion Without tariffs, that won’t happen,” Mr Trump said.

Mr Trump has claimed credit for ending the India-Pakistan conflict more than 80 times since May 10 last year, when he announced on social media that the two neighbors had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire after Washington-brokered talks.

India has consistently denied any third party interference.
