A wife holds her husband’s legs after his upper body was suspended from the plane in the air during the window crash.
Svetlana Jurkovic was flying from Greece to Germany when a window shattered, sucking in the man sitting near her. Half of his body was outside the window, even though he was wearing a seat belt.
But Ljubisa Karović’s wife grabbed him by the legs and said: “If we die, we will die together.” The accident occurred a few days ago on board Ryanair flight FR1879, which was en route from Thessaloniki in Greece to Memmingen near Munich in Germany on Friday. It was operated by the budget airline Air Malta. The flight was airborne for just over an hour and reached an altitude of 16,000 feet before returning to Thessaloniki Airport. For two minutes, the pair was out to the chest.Jerkovic said that, with the help of two passengers, she was able to pull her husband, who lost consciousness three times, onto the plane. She said many people fled their seats to other parts of the plane in search of safety after cabin pressure was relieved.Passengers told local media that Karovich kept his seatbelt fastened and helped those on board hold him down while his upper torso was in the plane’s airway outside.
The shock of the incident is enormous. The husband is in the hospital receiving treatment. “It is important to me that he is alive,” the wife said. “His hand was severely injured and he also suffered burns. He is unable to communicate and does not remember the entire event.”She added: “Some people came to help me, and I remember a man and a woman.” “This man helped me a lot, Ljubisa and me. I think he was Albanian, thank you very much.”
I didn’t remember his name, and I don’t even know if he told me. “I would like to meet him, to thank him in person again.”A Ryanair spokesperson said: “A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen on Friday morning returned to Thessaloniki shortly after take-off when the passenger window of the flight came off. The aircraft landed normally and passengers returned to the terminal. One passenger requested and received medical assistance on the ground in Thessaloniki. In order to minimize any delays, an alternative aircraft was arranged to take the passengers to Memmingen.
