'How can I get a data engineering job in the US' asked by Indian students: Tech founder says $100K H-1B visa fee made answer frustrating

US founder Zach Wilson was trolled after he stood up for Indian students.

Zach Wilson, former founder of Meta techie, said he feels proud to be an American after a federal court struck down a $100,000 tariff imposed by the Donald Trump administration on importing H-1B visa holders.

Wilson said the past six months have been frustrating as he asked his Indian students, “How can I get a data engineering job in the US?” “And my answer is basically that you’re not because of Trump,” he wrote in X’s post.“This visa fee was another reason I wanted to visit Bangalore and Hyderabad this year. Because if we can’t bring brains to America, the minds will continue to build amazing things in India. And the outstanding entrepreneurs and engineers I met in India were amazing.”

“The world is balancing out,” the former Netflix engineer said.“It’s amazing to see that America still has the checks and balances needed to keep it a land of immigrants and new ideas! Today is one of the few days in a very long time that I can say that I am proud to be an American and that my government is doing something right,” Wilson said.

Huge trolling for taking the side of Indians

Zach Wilson’s post sparked heavy criticism when social media users asked him why he didn’t consider coaching American students.

“90% of my students are American and I love talking to them about the amazing opportunities,” Wilson said. One wrote: “How can I, as an American, get my data engineering job? Fuck you man OPT doesn’t pay payroll taxes. They tolerate overwork and abuse. I hate you so much.”“Welcome to the new world. The jobs are going to be shipped to Bangalore anyway, so it’s not like they’re taking a job that was going to an American,” Wilson replied. In response to the backlash, Wilson said he was hired by three different hiring managers when he was working at big tech companies and never faced any discrimination under Indian managers.
