At present, the Indian heat wave is continuing in a continuous and strong manner, with many cities experiencing extremely hot weather simultaneously. The temperature in about ten cities reached 46 degrees Celsius, which is among the hottest cities in the world at the moment.
The heatwave appears to be centered in Uttar Pradesh and neighboring areas, suggesting that there may be a broader geographic impact rather than random increases. There are no signs of rain in the weather forecast, and the sky remains sunny and cloud-free, which helps keep temperatures steadily rising throughout the day.According to an AQI report as of April 27, 2026, India is currently experiencing a sustained period of extreme heat, with multiple cities recording extreme temperatures at the same time.

Hottest cities in the world: Extreme heat in India turns cities into scorching hotspots
Panda
Banda is located in the Bundelkhand region, which has dry soil and sparse vegetation. This helps in rapid heating due to the hot summer season in this particular area. Since the air contains less moisture, there is an increase in solar radiation, which leads to higher temperatures.
Fatehpur
Fatehpur is located in the central Ganges Plain region, where global warming is very significant even during long dry periods.
This region generally receives mild weather conditions in April and May, facilitating continued warming. With no clouds or precipitation, temperatures remain high throughout the day. In addition, the winds that blow in this area bring warm air.
Etawah
Etawah is subject to the effects of a semi-arid climate resulting in scorching heat in the summer. Etawah landscaping has a high efficiency rate when it comes to absorbing heat.
It can also retain this heat well, especially during hot and sunny days in the summer.
Benedke
Bindki shares the same climatic features as a result of its inland location. There are no large bodies of water nearby, which leads to unregulated temperature. This means that temperatures rise quickly during the day and fall slowly at night. The weather remains clear and continuous, which leads to continuous high temperatures.
Uraya
Aurea often records sharp temperature increases during prolonged dry weather. The flat terrain of the area allows uninterrupted solar radiation throughout the day. When combined with low humidity and minimal cloud cover, this results in rapid heating. Such conditions are typical during heatwave phases in northern India.
Moradabad
Moradabad, located in the northern plains, can also experience intense heat during strong heatwave conditions.
Although farther north, it is still influenced by dry continental air masses. These conditions reduce cooling effects and allow temperatures to rise significantly during the day.
Kripalu
Kripalu Dham Mangarh is located in an area that gets prolonged sun exposure during the summer months. The absence of major weather disturbances allows temperatures to rise steadily. With minimal cloud interference, solar radiation remains high throughout the day, contributing to persistent heat conditions.
Prayagraj
Prayagraj, also known as Allahabad, frequently records high temperatures due to its geographical location. Located in the Indo-Gangetic plains, it is exposed to strong solar heating during the summer. Dry winds and clear skies add to the high temperatures, making it one of the hottest cities during heat wave periods.
Gohad
Johad is located in central India, where the effects of continental heating are particularly strong. The area lacks coastal influence, which means temperatures can rise without moderation.
Extended drought conditions and stable weather patterns often result in persistently high temperatures during the summer.
Bankura
Bankura represents eastern India in this list. Although the area can experience humidity, periods of drought significantly increase temperature levels. When there is no rain and the sky remains clear, the temperature rises quickly. This results in conditions similar to those seen in the central and northern regions during the heat wave phases.
Heatwave guidance issued by PIB
The guidelines were issued by the India Meteorological Department, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, through an official communication issued by the PIB. According to their report, the temperature in most parts of northwest, central and peninsular India ranges between 40°C to 44°C, with some places recording figures even higher. Many areas witnessed an increase of about 5 degrees Celsius compared to normal temperatures. This means that heat stress has developed in these areas.Forecast indicates a heat wave forming in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and parts of central India. The coastal areas will witness hot, humid weather, while the northern plains will witness warm nights.Avoid exposure to sunlight between noon and late afternoon. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Wear loose cotton clothing to reduce heat stress. Avoid strenuous activities when there is excessive heat outside. This requires special care by children, the elderly and the sick. The IMD said that obtaining timely information is essential to take appropriate precautions in order to prevent the spread of heat stroke and heat exhaustion in these conditions that will prevail in the coming days.
