Gunshots, screams and panic were captured on video after a mass shooting near a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, US on Saturday, leaving at least 12 people injured, according to authorities.
Two victims are reported to be in critical condition.Footage, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows festival-goers running for cover as gunfire erupts near the annual Old West End festival.
According to Toledo Police, officers responded to reports of a shooting near the festival at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time, and found several victims with gunshot wounds. A number of injured people were transferred to nearby hospitals to receive treatment.Authorities believe that there was more than one shooter involved in the incident. “It appears as if there were at least two shooters, and I think they were probably shooting at each other,” Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan said during a news conference.No suspects have been arrested as of Saturday evening, and the investigation is ongoing.The shooting occurred near the Old West End Festival, a two-day community event in Toledo’s historic district that features live music, food vendors, shopping and house tours.
Eyewitnesses reported that they heard several gunshots before crowds began to flee the area. Kevin Perry, who was attending the festival, told the media that people immediately fell to the ground after shots were fired.Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said summer festivals should remain safe places for families, and he expressed confidence that law enforcement would identify those responsible.The incident is among more than 170 mass shootings recorded in the United States this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are shot.
