A Florida man was arrested after allegedly swinging a machete at milk crates in a residential area in the Florida Keys, CBS News reported. Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to Barcelona Drive on Big Coppitt Key around 9 p.m. on April 9 after reports of a man acting erratically.
Callers told police the person was seen waving a machete and hitting objects outside.When officers arrived, they identified the suspect as 47-year-old Elijah Lee Towbridge of Key West. According to deputies, he was using the weapon to break into milk crates in the area.Despite the aggressive display, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.Towbridge was taken into custody at the scene without further trouble and transported to a local jail.
He has prior felony convictions, which may be relevant as the case continues, authorities said.He was charged with possession of a concealed weapon, which deputies described as a machete, and improper display of a deadly weapon.The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the incident alarmed residents but did not escalate into violence involving others. Investigators did not indicate any other threat to the public.
