UK Grooming Gang Investigation: London, Bradford, Keighley and Oldham have been named as the first investigation sites

Locations for the first phase of the grooming ring investigation have been announced.

A national inquiry into grooming gangs has announced that investigations will begin in Oldham, Bradford, Keighley and London as part of its first phase.The independent legal inquiry into grooming gangs, led by Baroness Anne Longfield, will examine how authorities and organizations respond to cases of child sexual abuse.

The inquiry has the power to require people and institutions to provide information and explain their actions.Alongside these initial sites, the investigation will also look at whether previous recommendations were followed in places such as Oxford and Rotherham, where similar cases have already been reviewed.Independent MP Robert Lowe also commented on this development, describing it as progress and recognition of the efforts of activists and survivors.In a post on X, Lowe said he was relieved to see rape gang investigations taking place in Oldham, London, Bradford and Keighley, describing them as progress and praising campaigners for their efforts.He added that several police investigations are now underway following his investigation, and said more details will be shared when it is safe to do so. He also said work to initiate private prosecutions continues.

Lowe said his team would cooperate with authorities where appropriate to help ensure justice is served.

He added that although there is still a long way to go, progress has been made.Lowe highlighted the role of survivors, saying they had been struggling for years and decades, and described them as among the bravest people he had met, adding that it was their efforts that made this happen.
