Dubai has announced a new package of landmark development projects that blend artificial intelligence, Emirati heritage and world-class urban design, as the emirate accelerates its ambition to become one of the best places in the world to live, work and visit. The projects, approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, include the world’s first AI park design challenge, the first-of-its-kind Dubai Falcon Market, and the lighting transformation of an 8-kilometre-long Dubai Creek.

Together, the initiatives aim to improve the quality of life, preserve the emirate’s cultural identity, and create new tourist and community destinations. It also supports the long-term goals of the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, which aims to build a greener, smarter and more people-centred city.Announcing the projects at X, Sheikh Hamdan said: “Dubai continues to invest in innovative ideas that combine heritage, technology and quality of life for residents and visitors alike.” The projects will be delivered by Dubai Municipality as part of the emirate’s broader strategy to combine innovation and sustainable urban development.

The world’s first artificial intelligence-designed park

Among the major announcements is what Dubai describes as the world’s first AI park design challenge.

Instead of creating a traditional park, Dubai will invite architects, urban planners, university students, researchers, startups, AI specialists and technology innovators from around the world to design the city’s next public green space using AI and advanced data analysis. This initiative aims to ensure that the park reflects how residents actually use public spaces. Artificial intelligence will analyze the needs of the community, while the selected concepts will be reviewed by an international panel of renowned designers and senior Dubai government officials.

Local residents will also play a direct role by helping to choose the winning design.Officials say the project represents a new model of urban planning where technology, sustainability and public engagement work together to shape the cities of the future. The challenge also reinforces Dubai’s ambition to become a global leader in artificial intelligence and innovation in smart cities.

Falcon market in Dubai

The second major project focuses on preserving one of the oldest traditions in the UAE.Dubai will build the region’s first integrated falconry market, a specialized destination dedicated to falconry, one of the country’s most valuable cultural practices. The market, inspired by the shape of falcon wings, will feature stunning architecture that combines traditional heritage and modern design. The project extends over an area of 50,000 square feet and is estimated to cost approximately 50 million dirhams. It will include specialized falconry outlets, veterinary services, visitor facilities, and spaces designated for cultural events, exhibitions, and heritage activities.

Officials believe it will become a hub for falconry enthusiasts and a new tourist attraction that celebrates Emirati identity. The market also forms part of wider efforts to develop Dubai’s rural and desert areas while creating unique attractions that showcase the emirate’s history alongside its modern ambitions.

Al Khor Lighting Project to transform the waterfront

The historic Dubai Creek is also poised for a radical transformation. The 8-kilometre lighting project will illuminate parks, heritage areas, waterfront walkways, creek entrances and building facades along Dubai Creek, creating a stunning night-time experience for residents and visitors. The project, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027, is expected to breathe new life into one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods while preserving its historic character. Officials say the lighting installation will improve safety, encourage evening tourism and support businesses operating along the waterfront. This initiative forms part of Dubai’s broader plan to transform its waterfronts into globally recognized public destinations that combine entertainment, culture, tourism and high-quality urban design.

Projects with international architects

Alongside the three pioneering initiatives, Dubai Municipality also announced plans to collaborate with world-renowned architects on future public projects across the emirate. It will be one of the first collaborations with the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who was commissioned to design Al Sadd Park, his first park project in Dubai. The project will combine architecture, landscape and local cultural elements, reflecting Dubai’s increasing focus on internationally recognized urban design.Officials said that these partnerships aim to create distinctive public spaces while enhancing Dubai’s position as a global center for architecture, creativity and innovation.

Why are these projects important?

The newly approved initiatives are more than standalone developments, they reflect Dubai’s long-term vision to build a city where technology, heritage and sustainability work together. From pioneering AI-based urban planning to preserving Emirati traditions and revitalizing historic areas, the projects support the goals of the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, which prioritizes greener neighbourhoods, better public spaces, and improving the quality of life for residents. Officials believe that these projects will also boost tourism, boost the creative economy and enhance Dubai’s reputation as one of the world’s most innovative cities.
