Did the time change last night? Here's what happened in DST 2026

Daylight Saving Time began Sunday at 2 a.m., moving clocks forward by an hour as most Americans lost an hour of sleep last night. According to the National Weather Service, before the clocks changed, sunrise in Boston was at 6:09 a.m. and sunset at 5:41 p.m.

On Sunday, after the time change, the sun rises at 7:08 a.m. and sets at 6:42 p.m. Since 2007, daylight saving time begins each year on the second Sunday in March. Daylight saving time in 2026 will end at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November, which is November 1 this year, in 238 days.

What is daylight saving time?? What does he do?

Daylight saving time is the practice of moving clocks forward by an hour to get more daylight. This practice was first adopted in the United States in 1918 to save fuel during World War I.

It was used during World War II as well. Hawaii and Arizona do not have daylight saving time. The same applies to the territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. This decades-old practice is a source of great controversy, with many experts believing it does more harm than good because it disrupts sleep and creates confusion about frequent clock changes. President Donald Trump previously said he would eliminate daylight saving time, which is inconvenient and very expensive for the country.

But then he said opinions were divided on the issue. “It’s something I could do, but a lot of people like it one way, and a lot of people like it the other way,” he later said.

Large parts of Canada and parts of Mexico near the US border participate in daylight saving time. British Columbia Premier David Eby said the province is switching to permanent daylight saving time. British Columbia’s new time zone will be called “Pacific Time.” While most of Africa and Asia do not participate, Israel, Lebanon, Cyprus and Egypt do. In South America, only Chile and Paraguay currently observe daylight saving time, and in Central America, no country does.
