Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, has reportedly been kidnapped. Authorities said they believed the 84-year-old was taken from her home after she disappeared Sunday. A flyer with Guthrie’s photo was circulated, but for some it raised new concerns because Guthrie was seen with a dog.
Missing persons flyers had a picture of Nancy Guthrie with a dog. (X/@PhD_OnTheCouch)People online are starting to wonder what happened to the dog and if it is Nancy Guthrie’s. “I was hoping to make sure Nancy’s dog—she had one—wasn’t hurt or missing,” one person wrote on X.
Did Nancy Guthrie have a dog?No, after all Nancy Guthrie lived alone and didn’t have a dog. The black dog seen on the missing persons flyer appears to belong to daughter Savannah.
“Can’t see any dog on Nancy Guthrie’s Facebook and confirmed missing poster is Savannah’s dog Fetch,” one person wrote on X.
Another man later chipped in, “That wasn’t his dog.” Another claimed the dog in the poster was Annie’s, Savannah’s sister.
Notably, Annie was the last person to see Nancy Guthrie, as the two reportedly had dinner together on Saturday. Annie is said to live near Nancy’s place. Reports suggest that Annie and her husband Tommaso Cioni contacted the authorities.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office said they are speaking with people who had contact with Nancy prior to her abduction. It is not known if Cione was present at the dinner with Annie and Guthrie. As the search continues, investigators believe time may be of the essence because Guthrie would be in poor health without his daily medication. A dispatch call accessed by PEOPLE indicates Guthrie has high blood pressure, cardiac problems and uses a pacemaker.
