'Charlie is set': Erica Kirk's criticism of Candace Owens backfires as Linda Yaccarino and Laura Loomer turn on her

A social media fight erupted after Candace Owens criticized Erika Kirk’s appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors. “Stop. Just stop,” former The discussion quickly spread across social media.

Public criticism and political debate collided online this week after a short but pointed message from former X CEO Linda Yaccarino appeared to challenge commentator Candace Owens over her remarks about Erika Kirk.

The exchange quickly took off on social media, with both political leaders and commentators participating, as questions about Kirk’s appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors sparked greater controversy.Owens publicly asked why Erica Kirk was chosen for the advisory role, sparking controversy. Her remarks quickly spread across the Internet and sparked a direct response from Yaccarino. What could have been a routine political disagreement quickly turned into a viral moment when several public figures, including activist Laura Loomer, took part.

Candace Owens is accused of sparking conspiracy theories while Linda Yaccarino steps in with a sharp warning

Owens’ criticism came in response to news that Erika Kirk had been selected for a position on the Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. The appointment was confirmed through a statement issued by the White House on March 10. Speaking to USA Today, spokeswoman Olivia Wells defended the decision, saying: “President Trump made the perfect choice to appoint Erica Kirk to the Board of Visitors of the United States Air Force Academy.”

But Owens phrased the decision differently in a post that quickly ignited controversy.

“She is a grieving widow, so we have no right to ask what the hell qualifies her for the position of advisor to our Department of Defense. This is all completely normal, and only diabolical people would question this appointment,” her letter read.Shortly thereafter, Yaccarino appeared to wade into the discussion with a blunt response directed at the comment. Her post contained only three words: “Stop. Just stop.”The response sparked further interest, as Loomer added another layer to the dispute.

“I’m shocked that Candace hasn’t been blocked yet,” she wrote in a tweet on March 10.

Loomer later attempted to explain the reasoning behind Kirk’s appointment, arguing that the role was originally intended for her late husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, before his assassination in September 2024. She explained that the appointment could be seen as a symbolic continuation of his planned involvement.Loomer continued: “Since everything is a conspiracy to you, let me explain: Before Charlie Kirk was assassinated in September, President Trump had selected him to serve on the Air Force Academy board of directors last year.”She added: “Charlie has been appointed. He is dead now, and in order to honor him, his wife is taking his place. Not everything is a conspiracy.”

This explanation did little to placate critics online. Many users argue that government advisory positions should be based on qualifications rather than symbolic gestures. One widely shared comment summed up this frustration:“By this logic, if a senator dies, we should just appoint his or her spouse to the Senate seat in order to ‘honor’ them.”

Government positions are not a family inheritance.”According to reports, the Air Force Academy Board of Visitors includes about 16 members from across the political spectrum. The committee reviews issues such as curriculum, discipline, finances and overall morale at the academy. As the debate continued, the Academy itself made clear that it did not play a role in selecting individual members of the Board.
