A mother and her young child died in a tragic water accident in a west London park.
A mother and her child have died after getting into trouble in the water in a west London park. Emergency services were called to Elthorn Park on Saturday after reports of two people in water trouble.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, police and members of the public, they were pronounced dead at the scene, the Metropolitan Police said, the BBC reported. An investigation has been opened to find out exactly what happened. Police said initial indications were that no foul play was suspected, and officers were working to formally identify the victims and notify their relatives. Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman and her young child lost their lives.
Our thoughts are with their loved ones. “I would also like to pay tribute to the efforts of first responders and members of the public who did their best in a very difficult situation. He added: “While what happened is being investigated, all initial indications are that the circumstances are not suspicious.” The park is connected to the Grand Union Canal promenade and is located near the River Brent, a tributary of the River Thames, where the accident is believed to have occurred.
