New Delhi: The Seafarers’ Federation of India (FSUI) on Sunday sought urgent assistance for 24 Indian sailors on board a ship that was reportedly attacked off the coast of Oman, amid rising tensions in the region linked to the Israel-Iran conflict.In a post on the X website, the union said that the ship was located near the Strait of Hormuz, and called on the Indian authorities and the Indian Navy to intervene.
“Indian Navy in Hormuz 24 Indian sailors seeking urgent assistance at 2057.07N 059°0813 off the coast of Oman on board @IndiannavyMedia @MEAIndia @DrSJaishankar @shipmin_india @ITFglobalunion,” FSUI said in its post.The union did not provide details about the nature of the attack, the name of the ship, or the condition of the crew.
There was also no immediate confirmation from the Indian Navy, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or other government agencies regarding the reported incident.The ship was reportedly located off the coast of Oman near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a major maritime checkpoint through which a large portion of global oil shipments passes.The reported attack comes at a time of increasing instability in West Asia, with growing concerns about maritime security in the wake of the recent escalation between Israel and Iran.
