17 people were killed when a speeding minibus collided with a parked bus in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At least 17 people were killed and five others injured after a speeding minibus collided with a parked bus on a highway in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday.PTI news agency reported that the accident occurred near the Mardan area on the Swat Highway when the passenger car collided with a bus parked on the side of the road due to a mechanical failure.The parked bus was carrying passengers heading towards the scenic Swat Valley when the collision occurred.Rescuers and police rushed to the scene shortly after the accident.Shah Fahad, General Director of Rescue Services 1122, said that preliminary results indicate that driver negligence is the likely cause of the accident, according to the Associated Press news agency.Rescue teams transported the injured and the bodies of the deceased to a nearby hospital for treatment and identification.The authorities are continuing investigations into the incident.Road accidents remain frequent in Pakistan due to poor road infrastructure, reckless driving and poor implementation of traffic safety regulations.
