Who is Carmelo Anthony?

Anthony is an 18-year-old Frisco, Texas, teen charged with first-degree murder in connection with Metcalf’s death. On June 24, 2025, Anthony was indicted by a Collin County grand jury for murder.

According to CBS News, Anthony has been under house arrest since being released on reduced bail in April. He faces a charge of first-degree murder, meaning he could face a sentence of five to 99 years or life in prison. In Texas, people over 17 are considered adults, and Anthony was 17 at the time of his arrest.

What did Carmelo Anthony allegedly do?

Anthony is accused of killing Metcalf in a Frisco encounter in early April 2025. According to CBS News, witnesses said they saw Metcalf and Anthony arguing, and Anthony allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest. At the scene of the alleged murder on April 2, Anthony complied with a police order and was taken into custody. While in the police car, Anthony asked officers if Metcalf would recover. Metcalf was pronounced dead.

Two weeks later, Anthony was released from the Collin County Jail after a judge reduced his bail from $1 million to $250,000. According to CBS News, Anthony’s conditions of release require him to wear an ankle monitor, stay inside his parents’ home, always be under adult supervision and avoid interacting with his classmates.

Both Metcalfe’s family and Anthony’s family were present during the hearing when Anthony was released on bail.

“Every Texan deserves the right to defend themselves when they reasonably fear for their life,” Howard told reporters. “Self-defense is a protection that applies to every one of us. There are two sides to every story. Carmelo is a 17-year-old kid and valedictorian. He is the captain of his track team and the captain of the football team. This is a tragedy all the way down the road for both families.”

A GoFundMe was reportedly active for Anthony, but has since been deleted. The platform’s spokesperson explained: The Independent In a statement, they “prohibit fundraising for the legal defense of violent crimes.”

Who is Austin Metcalf?

Metcalf was a 17-year-old high school student in Frisco, Texas. His father, Jeff Metcalf, has started a GoFundMe fundraiser in honor of his late son.

“My son, Austin Metcalfe, was tragically stabbed today during a school assembly. They were unable to save him,” the GoFundMe description reads. “He was a bright young man with a great future ahead of him. He was a leader of men. His smile would light up a room. His passion for football was unbelievable. Voted team MVP last season and had a 4.0 GPA. He was looking to take his game to the next level. His commitment, dedication, leadership and sheer determination saw him rise to the level of success he desired. His twin brother, Hunter, played alongside him. We will all remember him for the way he impacted us.” The lives of others, I love you forever my son, it’s not goodbye, it’s see you later, and God will take care of us until we meet again.
