SS Rajamouli will be back on the sets of his upcoming film ‘Varanasi’ after taking a short break. The director recently attended special screenings of his films in France where he was honored at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris.
If the recent hype is to be believed, the accomplished director is set to begin filming one of the biggest war sequences in film.According to a report by Mid-day, SS Rajamouli is about to start shooting from July 7 in Hyderabad for the film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
A huge, extensively planned war scene
Interestingly, Mahesh Babu will participate in the shoot with around 3,500 aspiring artists. The makers have reportedly been preparing for this sequence for several weeks now.
The war episode is said to be one of the biggest scenes that the ‘Baahubali’ director has planned for several weeks. What will be filmed on set is just the beginning.Reports also indicate that thousands of young artists will later be doubled with visual effects. The final version will show a much larger army than actually depicted. Around 50,000 vanars are expected to appear on screen, making it one of the biggest battle scenes ever attempted in Indian cinema.
Interestingly, it was also revealed earlier that Mahesh Babu will be seen as Lord Rama in one of the important scenes of the film.
SS Rajamouli reveals what the film will offer
During the screening event in France, Rajamouli spoke about the kind of experience that ‘Varanasi’ will offer the audience. He said: “You will experience the cold and ice of Antarctica. The gods of the Ramayana, the natural disasters and the wonderful elements. This is the experience you will have, but at the heart of it all lies the feelings of father and son.”

Varanasi movie cast
Mahesh Babu plays the role of Rudra in the film. Priyanka Chopra Jonas will play Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran will play Kumbha. The film also marks Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ return to Hindi cinema after a gap of eight years.‘Varanasi’ is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on April 7, 2027.
