An Indian man threw his daughter from a boat and then jumped into the river in a horrific murder-suicide case in Australia.
Two bodies were found in the Parramatta River in Sydney last Saturday, prompting investigators to find a suicide note that led authorities to classify the incident as a premeditated murder-suicide.
Cops were called when witnesses told police that a man was seen floating in the water. The same man was seen earlier on a boat with a child. The man has been identified as 47-year-old Maulik Dandhukia, a man of Indian origin who lives in Australia with his family. It is believed that Dandhokia first threw her child from the boat and then jumped into the river. Neither of them knew how to swim. When the father rented the boat, he received a life jacket for himself and his child.
It seems that they wore those jackets at first but later abandoned them.Police said they found a suicide note on the boat after Dadhokia’s body was found. On Saturday evening, the body of the six-year-old girl was recovered from the riverbed.Local officials told police the man had rented a boat at least twice before – once with a woman and a child, possibly his family. This was his third time on the boat and he brought his daughter.
Just weeks before the tragedy, Dandhukia wrote publicly about living with chronic neck pain stemming from a gym injury he suffered in 2005. In a social media post, he said the injury affected a large part of his life. “To sum it up, probably 70% to 90% of the problems I’ve had in my life have been due to this neck pain,” he wrote.Police said Dandhokia was not known to police, and there were no orders for violence against her.Dhandhukia worked as an Application Support Analyst for the South East Sydney Local Health District and has previously held roles in the technology sector in both Australia and India. The family members have started a fundraising campaign for wife Pritiben Dadhokia who is seeking financial assistance to meet her urgent expenses.
