Director SS Rajamouli uses cutting-edge motion capture technology for his film ‘Varanasi’ starring Mahesh Babu. This advanced technology is used at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad. An important 25-minute action sequence is filmed using this method. This innovation brings cutting-edge visual effects production to India. The film promises to be a technically advanced project.
Director SS Rajamouli has once again raised the bar of Indian cinema with his upcoming film ‘Varanasi’, starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. Rajamouli, known for his wide-ranging vision, has provided advanced motion capture technology for this project.
Instead of relying solely on real locations, he chose a modern method of creating detailed images.
This decision shows his focus on innovation. The film is expected to be one of the most expensive and technically advanced projects in Indian cinema.
“Varanasi” uses advanced motion capture technology
According to The Hollywood Reporter India, the new team used the A&M Motion Capture Lab at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad. Developed by Mihira Visual Labs and global partner Animatrik, this facility is one of the most advanced in India.
It offers 360-degree pre-visualization, real-time virtual production, and digital performance capture. Speaking about the setup, the team said: “We had to import cameras, install them and train our local team within a specific timetable.
This shows the amount of effort that went into building this advanced film system.
Varanasi 25 minutes Work sequence shot
One of the highlights of “Varanasi” is a 25-minute action sequence created using this technique.
Using sensors, the team recorded the actors’ performance in a controlled environment. This method helped them recreate complex scenes with better control and more detail. “The scene will be approximately 25 minutes long, and it will be an exciting scene,” a team member said. This technology allowed them to blend real motion with digital effects, creating large-scale visuals.
Actors like Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran are said to be a part of this sequence, which makes it even more exciting.
SS Rajamouli pushes Indian cinema to the global level
SS Rajamouli’s use of this technology represents a big step for Indian cinema. Earlier, filmmakers had to depend on foreign studios for such works. Now, this can be done in India itself. The team revealed, “When we showed Al-Ragamouli the demo, he said that everything was ready and asked to start filming the next day.” Although the portions have already been shot in Georgia and Hyderabad, the film is moving quickly.
