Deadly sofa cushions are among the enemies waiting Rick and Morty Gang in season nine.

Adult Swim has teased the new 10-episode season of the animated series with a trailer that can be seen below and is exclusive to Hollywood Reporter. After the season 8 finale aired in July, Rick and Morty Season 9 is scheduled to release on May 24.

“Why does furniture attack us?” Beth, voiced by Sarah Chalke, asks father Rick (Ian Cardone) in the footage as the family battles a monster consisting of couch cushions.

In another moment, Rick is shown pulling his grandson Morty (Harry Belden) out of bed and shouting: “Rise and shine, you bastard! It’s time for training.” Chris Parnell and Spencer Grammer round out the core sound crew.

The trailer ends with a voiceover that pokes fun at the long-running nature of the sci-fi series that launched in 2013: “Anything is possible when everything is possible: 100 years of… Rick and Morty Continues with a new season.”

This leads Rick to quip, “Season nine, baby. Just an indeterminate number more.” Of course, this is a slight exaggeration: after her last capture, Rick and Morty It has been renewed for season 12.

Among the most exciting moments of Season 8 were the appearances of directors James Gunn and Zack Snyder, who voiced themselves. The Emmy Award-winning series ranked as the most-watched comedy on basic cable over several seasons.

The trailer launch kicks off an exciting stretch of Rick and Morty Fans. Last year, Adult Swim announced a spinoff series President Curtiswhich focuses on the titular character of voice actor Keith David, will be on its way.

During an interview last year with THR A date has been set for the end of season 8 Rick and Morty Co-creator Dan Harmon admitted that it can be difficult to provide viewers with as much serialized story arc as they might want. Some fans on social media have noted that Season 8 seems to focus more on episodic adventures rather than expanding on the bigger picture.

“My part is that I will always insist on the standard one-off thing,” Harmon said at the time. “That’s harder to do, so it takes more energy. The sequence is a glorious, wonderful thing that happens spontaneously for a show that people love. So it doesn’t really need help. But we have younger, smarter people on staff whose job it is to remember who Rick is and from what dimension. They make great, powerful exponents of great, canonical mythological episodes.”
