An orange alert has been issued for two districts in Kerala on Wednesday morning, June 10, by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD forecast thunderstorms, moderate rains and strong winds in several parts of the region as the southwest monsoon continues.
Weather update in Kerala
An orange alert has been issued for Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts in Kerala for three hours starting at 10 am on Wednesday morning. Currently, the entire site remains under a yellow alert warning.
The new warnings come after an orange alert was issued for Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday, June 8, and for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday, June 9. The orange alert indicates heavy rain falling between 11 cm and 20 cm.

Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and surface winds of 40 kmph to 50 kmph were forecast in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod besides Alappuzha and Ernakulam in Kerala.
Heavy rains and strong winds lashed several parts of Kerala, especially the northern districts, on Tuesday, leading to waterlogging. The authorities evacuated some areas as a precaution.

As of Wednesday, June 10, the maximum temperature in Thiruvananthapuram is expected to range from 32.6°C to 26°C while the minimum temperature ranges from 27.7°C to 23.4°C.

Similar conditions are expected to continue on Thursday, June 11. Skies are expected to be generally cloudy with occasional periods of rain or thunderstorms. Strong surface winds are expected to blow during the two days.
The southwest monsoon has now advanced further into some parts of the Midwest and the entire northeastern Bay of Bengal, as well as additional areas in the northwestern Bay of Bengal. The monsoon hit Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram along with parts of Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from June 7.
According to the IMD forecast, conditions remain favorable for the monsoon to advance further into Maharashtra and Karnataka, as well as some areas of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, over the next few days.

Although there is no urgent cause for concern, communities living in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain vigilant of monsoon activity in the area.
