Where to broadcast “Mollywood Times”
The makers have officially confirmed that Mollywood Times will start streaming on JioHotstar from July 3, 2026. Sharing the announcement on social media, the team described the film as a ‘love and hate letter to Malayalam cinema’.The film revolves around Vineeth Madhavan, played by Nesleen. Since his childhood, Vineeth dreamed of becoming one of the youngest and most popular directors in the Malayalam film industry. His passion lies in creating horror films based on intense storytelling and strong artistic execution. But the path to achieving this dream is not easy at all. Director Abhinav Sunder Nayak explores the difficulties faced by newcomers in the film industry.
The film opened well at the box office
Mollywood Times recorded a respectable opening when it reached theatres. According to Sacnilk estimates, the film grossed Rs 1.80 crore nett in India on its opening day.
The lineup came from 954 shows across the country. The first-day performance took the Indian collection’s total to Rs 2.09 lakh crore. Since it was the opening day, the total net collection in India was also Rs 1.80 lakh crore.
ETimes’ verdict on ‘Mollywood Times’
Reviewing the film, ETimes wrote, “Co-written with Ramu Sunil, Abhinav offers a refreshingly real look at life’s struggles. Refreshing because, even though it could have easily slipped into gloom, the writers keep the narrative upbeat and the hero never thinks of giving up on his dreams or truly compromising on his principles.”
So the ideas are compelling, but the storytelling feels muddled, especially in the second half.
The many obstacles that come in the way of Vineeth’s dreams are only from Mollywood’s strange way of doing things that become exhausting. Surprisingly, parts of the SC/ST franchise seem tone-deaf and unnecessary.”With its OTT premiere now confirmed, ‘Mollywood Times’ is set to reach a wider audience and is expected to gain a huge fan base just like Abhinav’s previous film ‘Mukundan Unni Associates’.
