Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’, inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict, may miss its August release as the CBFC has reportedly withheld the clearance. Previously titled Battle of Galwan, the film also faced backlash in China. Salman plays the role of Colonel Santosh Babu. The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, stars Chitrangda Singh, and has music by Himesh Reshammiya.
Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’, based on the 2020 Galwan Valley standoff between Indian and Chinese forces, was originally scheduled to release on April 17 to coincide with Eid. The date was later postponed, and the film is expected to hit theaters in August.
However, reports now suggest that the CBFC has shelved the film, making it unlikely that it will meet the August deadline as well.

According to NDTV, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reserved the clearance certificate for Salman’s film ‘Maatrubhumi’, previously titled ‘Battle of Galwan’, until further orders.
Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’ sparks controversy in China
Even before its release, the film sparked controversy in China. After the teaser hit the internet, many Weibo users accused the film of giving a distorted narrative of the Galwan Valley clash.
The Ministry of External Affairs took up the matter in January, saying that issues related to the film industry in India are being dealt with by “relevant authorities” and that the Ministry of External Affairs plays “no role” in such matters.

The makers revealed the teaser of the film on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan’s 60th birthday. Salman plays Colonel Santosh Babu in the film, the commander of the 16th Bihar Regiment, who led the Indian forces during the clash while implementing the border disengagement agreement.
