Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi, who plays the scheming politician Jameel Jamali in the Dhurandhar series, has responded to the controversy after Pakistani politician Nabil Jaboul claimed that the character resembles him.

As Bedi gears up for the release of the sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the actor clarified that the role was not modeled after any specific individual. He also talked about Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups being postponed from its previous release date.

“I didn’t photograph it at all.”

In response to the similarity claim, Bedi rejected the comparison and stressed that the character was never intended to represent any real-life personality.“I didn’t portray him at all. I don’t understand why he would identify himself with the character. I simply adopted a certain look for the role. Now if someone feels that my look is like his, what can I really do about it? It’s not my fault,” Bedi told India Today.

He also added, “Maybe because of the wigs and styling he might feel there’s a slight resemblance. That’s his interpretation. But there’s not much we can do about it.”

“The character is an amalgam of many politicians.”

The actor explained that the role of Jamil Jamali was created by blending traits from multiple Pakistani politicians rather than drawing inspiration from a single individual.“As far as the writers, directors and filmmakers are concerned, we never thought of portraying Nabil Jaboul specifically. In fact, I created the character by mixing traits of many Pakistani politicians – their speeches, body language and aspects that suit the role,” he said.“I tweaked those elements and then built the character from there. So, if Nabil Qubool alone feels that the character represents him or chooses to see it that way, then that’s really his problem. I can’t help that,” Bedi added.

On the toxic diversion released

Bedi also reacted to the postponement of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, which was earlier scheduled to clash with Dhurandhar: The Revenge at the March 19 box office. The film makers later changed the release to June 4 due to tensions in the Middle East.Commenting on this development, Bedi said: “Tension toh humare lei bhi hai in Middle East mainland, bar hum toh aa rah hai.” (The tension is there for us in the Middle East as well, but we will continue to release our film.) Besides Bedi, the cast of Dhurandhar: The Revenge includes Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan. The film is written and directed by Aditya Dhar.
