Masaba Gupta recently gave fans a glimpse into why she thinks her parents – actress Neena Gupta and cricket legend Vivian Richards – are effortlessly cool. The determined actress shared a video of her father reminiscing about his cricketing days and joked that she still can’t keep up with her parents’ energy.

Masaba shares a video of her father

Taking to Instagram, Masaba posted a clip of Richards revisiting memories of one of his famous roles. Sharing the video, she wrote: “Why is my dad in bad shape. Damn. Awesome?! I can’t keep up with him. But I have a feeling my daughter will.”In the video, Richards can be seen talking about a memorable moment from his career at The Oval in 1976.“I’m listening to something that happened in 1976 at the Oval, and it’s a blast from the past. I think I managed to score 291, so I’m just trying to remember those days and remember them.

“It sounds pretty good,” he said.

Viv Richards reflects on cricket and Commonwealth

During the conversation, Richards also spoke about the importance of cricket in the Commonwealth.“Oh, it’s a great game, I think it’s the biggest in terms of sporting activities that will take place. The Commonwealth itself played a big role. My country was Antigua and Barbuda, so I’m really excited about that,” he said.He also recalled the time he carried the flag for Antigua during the 1988 Commonwealth Games.

He added: “That period was a great time for me. I really enjoyed it. I think we were in Kuala Lumpur. This now trumps it in a big way because I would have spent a lot of time in this country, so I’m happy to be here again.”

New role for Viv Richards

Masaba’s position also comes at a time when Richards is assuming an important international role. The West Indies cricket icon has been appointed as the official envoy to the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which will be held in Antigua and Barbuda from 1-4 November 2026.In this role, Richards will represent the Caribbean region and promote themes of partnership, investment and sustainability during the summit.
