Power usage up 4% in AprilAlthough peak power demand broke the all-time high record, officials said low temperatures during the first 10 days of the month due to periods of rain in parts of the country kept consumption in check.Data from Grid India showed that peak power demand reached 256.1 GW on April 25, with electricity consumption breaking all records due to rising mercury levels and increased use of air conditioners by commercial and domestic consumers. The average demand for this month was estimated at 229.2 gigawatts. There were four days during the month when demand exceeded 250 gigawatts.
