With the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, there were many political reactions. While former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described the resignation as a “huge victory for democracy”, BJP leader Amit Malviya drew attention to Pradhan’s “steadfast commitment to students”.

The move came amid widespread calls for his resignation and a student protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. The Abhijit Debaki-led group also celebrated Pradhan’s resignation, praising the determination of the students.

Arvind Kejriwal
The AAP’s national convener shared a video message on X, congratulating the country and calling Pradhan’s resignation a big win for the country.
“Huge congratulations to the youth of India, Generation Z. Pradhan had to resign, and this is a huge victory for democracy. The government never listened…but it had to bend. The government must now understand that it will have to listen to the people,” Kejriwal said in a video.
Manish Sisodia
AAP leader Manish Sisodia also commented that the resignation was not prompted by Pradhan’s will but by the students’ demand.
“Dharmendra Pradhan did not tender his resignation voluntarily. The children of the nation, the students of the nation, received Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. If this was a voluntary resignation, it should have happened when the NEET paper leak happened… The country needs a massive educational revolution…”, news agency ANI quoted him as saying.
Mahua Moitra

While opposition leaders celebrated the move, BJP leader Amit Malviya tried to highlight Pradhan’s contributions in the field of education.
“Long before assuming office, his journey was deeply rooted in student movements and youth engagement. That experience gave him an enduring understanding of the aspirations, challenges and ambitions of Indian youth. Throughout his public life, he remained steadfast in his belief that education is the most powerful tool for social transformation and national progress,” Malviya’s post read in part.
The BJP leader also said that leading the education department is an uphill task and requires balancing the interests of millions of students, teachers, parents and institutions.
He also thanked Pradhan for his “years of dedicated service, his unwavering commitment to India’s students, and his belief in the transformative power of education.”
Manoj Tiwari
Reacting to Pradhan’s announcement, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari said the student protests should stop now. “The demands of the students have been accepted, so the protest must now be withdrawn. Every word of the Prime Minister is firm and important, and the students must respect the steps he takes,” Tiwari told news agency PTI.
However, the CJP said that while Pradhan’s resignation demand has been accepted, other key demands remain pending – compensation to the families of students who died by suicide after NEET paper leak, no legal action against the protesters and an apology from the Delhi Police and the Royal Air Force.
Adair Ranjan Chowdhury
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the resignation should have been returned long ago and this could have avoided the clash between students and policemen during the protests.
