As fans prepare for “Dunesday”‘s epic clash with Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday,” competing with “Dune: Part Three,” new reports claim that a major box office showdown may be avoided next.

According to various news reports, Marvel is reportedly considering moving forward the release date of “Avengers: Doomsday,” not to avoid a clash, but to secure access to premium IMAX screens during a very busy December box office.Reports indicate that the studio is in discussions to postpone the film’s release to December 11, a week earlier than its current December 18 schedule. The move comes after “Dune: Part Three” refused to budge after an IMAX release was installed as early as June 2024.

Since “Avengers: Doomsday” was booked for the same day the following year, the film would not be able to make it to IMAX.

“Dune: Part III” was written on IMAX screens for 3 weeks

“Dune: Part Three,” which was also shot in IMAX, has reportedly committed to all U.S. screens for three weeks starting Dec. 18. With this deal in place, “Doomsday” likely won’t be able to hit a large number of screens for about a month.

Why December 11 is perfect for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

After clearing “Jumanji 3” for a December 11 release for a December 25 release, the box office window is now open for “Doomsday” to not only hit IMAX screens, but also enjoy a standalone release and make big money before it faces any competition.

Despite this clash, it’s worth noting that “Doomsday” is tracking at $1 billion in box office receipts.

In 2019, with the release of “Avengers: Endgame,” the IMAX format contributed significantly, earning US$91.5 million during its opening weekend. “Endgame’s” one-week run alone was enough to become the fastest film in history to reach $1 billion at the global box office. She achieved this feat in just five days and went on to have a collection worth US$2.79 billion for her lifetime.Meanwhile, Bollywood film ‘King’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachchan is also scheduled to release in December. The film is currently scheduled to hit the big screens on December 25.
