He was allegedly beaten up by three men accusing him of attending a cricket tournament in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district, a police official said on Thursday.

“Khot, who lives in Thane welfare and works with Rapido, went to his native Guhagar to play a tournament as part of the Adarsh ​​Krira Mandal cricket team. Other cricket teams in the village raised objections claiming he was an outsider and not a local resident,” the official said.

In the wee hours of Sunday, Khot was allegedly attacked by Omkar Borkar, Avinash Sheth and Cyprasad Borkar while the victim was sitting outside his house with his relatives, the official said.

“They abused Khot and hit him with a steel rod and showered punches. They fled after the badly injured Khot fell down. He has been admitted to hospital. Doctors said he is out of danger”.

Based on a complaint filed by Khot’s relatives, a case was registered against Omkar Borkar, Avinash Sheth and Saiprasad Borkar at the Guhagarh police station under the Indian Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, breach of peace and other offences.

“The accused made an application to the court seeking a stay on their arrest. Accordingly, the court has stayed their arrest till February 20,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Khat’s elderly mother staged a protest at the Guhagarh police station on Wednesday as the three accused were not arrested.

He said that he will approach the court for justice.
