This was only the second time a team had crossed the 250-run mark in the history of the tournament. The total also became the highest ever scored against Zimbabwe in T20Is, surpassing India’s 234/2 in Harare in 2024.

West Indies’ 19 sixes equal the most in a T20 World Cup innings, equaling Netherlands’ effort against Ireland in Sylhet in 2014.
This was also their third total of over 250 in T20Is, tying them with Zimbabwe for second highest score. When West Indies were asked to bat first, they did not have the ideal start. Brandon King fell for nine in the third over to Richard Ngarava, and Shai Hope was dismissed for 14 minutes by Brad Evans as the team reached 55/2 at the end of the power play. Then Shimron Hetmyer lit up the innings. He fired back-to-back sixes off Graeme Cremer before taking 20 runs from Sikandar Raza in the next over to make a stunning half-century off 19 balls – the fastest by a West Indian in T20 World Cup history.
At the halfway mark, West Indies were 115/2 and never looked back. Hetmyer and Rovman Powell put together a 122-run stand, with Powell reaching his fifty in 29 balls. Hetmyer’s explosive bomb 85 off 34 balls – studded with seven fours and seven sixes – laid the foundation before his downfall.Despite the late wickets, the emergence of Romario Shepherd and Jason Holder and an unbeaten 31 off 13 balls by Shirvan Rutherford saw the West Indies reach a massive 254/6.
