Varun Chakravarthy played with two breaks in hand, won the man of the match award as KKR beat RR in IPL 2026

New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Varun Chakravarthy revealed on Sunday that he still has two “fractures” in his left hand. “I think we all deserve this win,” said Varun Chakravarthy, who played a crucial role in KKR’s first win of the IPL 2026 season on Sunday against LSG. “Even though it’s just one win, it feels very nice.

In the first few games (of the season) I got injured and had two fractures. I still have two fractures in my left hand. So I’m just trying to manage that.”

Chakravarthy had earlier missed two matches for KKR due to a finger injury. “I would say it (the pitch) was a little slow, but it was just right for us and we made the most of it. I think we could have hit a little better in the middle, but it’s all good. Yeah, we don’t know where we’ll finish, but we’re just making a statement that we’re not weak competitors.”

We just don’t come here to participate. We are here to win every match. We are here to provide strong competition for the cup. We still have hopes and I think we will do well from this.

Wily Varun Chakravarthy (3/14) was back to his best, showing perfect chemistry with veteran Sunil Narine (2/26) as KKR rediscovered their magic at Eden Gardens to restrict RR to under 155/9. Rookie Kartik Tyagi (3/22) also shined at the death with an important wicket.

Chakravarthy received the Player of the Match award for his performance against RR.In the chase, KKR vice-captain Rinku Singh lived up to expectations with an unbeaten 53 as Kolkata Knight Riders survived anxious moments to register their first win of IPL 2026 with a four-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals.
