PUNE: Isha Singh achieved a dream final as she clinched the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol event setting world records at the FIFA World Cup in Munich on Wednesday. Isha from Hyderabad scored 43 goals in the final, one more than the previous senior world record, and two more than the junior world record.

Isha, 21, broke Korean shooter Kim Yi-ji’s record of 42 shots, which was set in 2024. The junior record had been held by Korean Yang Ji-in (41), the gold medalist at the Paris Olympics, since 2024 as well.In the final on Wednesday, Isha’s dominance can be measured by the five-point difference between gold and silver. Veteran German shooter Doreen Finekamp (38) took second place.

Isha, who won bronze at the World Championships last year, said she wanted to win a medal in Munich, but she never thought of winning it this way.

“The World Cup in Munich is a very prestigious event, and the scores are high here, so qualifying for the finals is a big achievement. I wanted very much to win a medal here. I did not think about setting a new world record, but I am glad I did because a gold medal record in this range would mean a lot,” Esha told TOI.The young woman said that winning would help her gain confidence ahead of a busy season. “We have the Asian Games and World Championships later this year. I will remember this performance to gain confidence, but at the same time, I will also work on my future matches,” she said.Changing her grip has been beneficial for her, said Ronak Pandit, Isha’s coach.
