Who was Nagalakshmi?

According to the police, as reported by Times Of India (TOI), the victim was an Instagram influencer with over three lakh followers. She also managed silk saree stores in Nanganallur and Anna Nagar.

Her Instagram feed is filled with videos of her promoting sarees and giving saree-wearing tips. Sometimes, the photos captured glimpses into her personal life.

Nagalakshmi was reportedly the sole breadwinner of the family and owner of Sree Sai Silks. She has two sons with Subramanian, police said.

While one of them is in Russia pursuing medical studies, the other is studying dentistry at a university in Chennai.

What happened?

Subramanian left home two years ago but recently returned to Chennai and reconnected with his wife, police said. The couple moved in together, but eventually had arguments.

On April 27, the younger son found his parents dead inside the house when he rushed home after receiving a “disturbing message” from his father.

After reaching the spot, the bodies were recovered and sent to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for autopsy, police said.

According to preliminary police investigation, an argument broke out between the couple, which led to Subramanian killing Nagalakshmi and then his death by suicide. The incident is being investigated.

Discussing suicides can be triggering for some. However, suicides can be prevented. If you need support or know someone who does, please contact your nearest mental health professional.
